Abstract

455,783. Actuation of switches. BEST, F. L., 47, Pollard Road, Whetstone, London. April 27, 1935, No. 12671. [Class 38 (v)] The connector 16 of an electric kettle or like cooking vessel is pushed into position against the action of a spring or spring-pressed plunger and is held in position by a latch 21 which is moved to release the connector by the rocking of the kettle caused by the sinking of the water level. The connector then flies out and breaks the circuit to the kettle. In the form shown the latch 21 forms part of a lever 22 adapted to engage the table on which the kettle stands when the kettle rocks about supports 30 due to the fall in water level bringing the centre of gravity of the device to the right of the supports. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the kettle normally rests on a foot formed at the end of a lever acted upon by a spring which is strong enough to move the lever and raise the kettle and release the connector when the amount of water in the kettle is small.
