Abstract
455,407. Making tubing. HEILBUT, M. H., Kennan's House, Crown Court, Cheapside, London.-(Bundy Tubing Co. ; 4815, Bellevue Avenue, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) Dec. 11, 1935, No. 34309. [Class 83 (ii)] In a method of making high-pressure tubing coated strip stock is used to form a number of tube members the edges of which are sealed by fused metal and these are disposed in telescoped relation and drawn down in size until the contiguous surfaces thereof tightly contact, the combined tube being then heated to unite the said surfaces by fusing the interposed coating metal. The coated tubes to be telescoped are preferably of the two-ply kind having an offset 3 against which the ends 4, 5 abut, copper-coated steel strip being suitable for making such tubes. Three tubes capable of being easily telescoped are fitted together and one end 17 of the composite tube thus formed is swaged so that it may be passed through a die 15 at the commencement of a drawing operation, Fig. 8. The composite tube is subsequently passed through a heating furnace 20, and cooler 21, Fig. 9, the former supplied through a pipe 22 with a non-oxidizing gas, with the result that the surfaces of the separate tubes are copper-welded together. The tube may thus be regarded as completed or it may be subjected to a further drawing process and annealed. Specifications 369,982 and 387,968 are referred to.
