B. ; c/o Budd Manufacturing Co., 2500, Hunting Park Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) April 15, 1935, No. 5996/36. Convention date, April 13, 1934. Divided out of 455,234. [Class 79 (iii)] [See also Group XXXII] A rail-car body having a power plant compartment at one end includes a unitary fabricated plate underframe structure on which the power plant is secured, the body being of truss construction. As shown in Figs. 4, 5, the underframe comprises plates 11, 21 &c. welded together to form a cellular structure, an engine being mounted on supports 15. The bogie 12 pivots on a centre-pivot 13 and is secured by a king-pin 14. The disposition of the engine 17, motor 18, &c. is such that the weight is distributed equally about the centrepivot. That part of the roof immediately above the engine is removable for access to the engine. The removable section of the roof is slotted to receive the exhaust muffler 44 and is provided with deep ribs 47, 48 for the attachment of radiators 43, and tank 45<1>. The space 56 between the muffler 44 and slot allows cooling air, drawn in through front grating 40, Fig. 4, to leave the engine chamber.
