Abstract

Bodies.-In closed motor vehicles the chassis is dispensed with and the rigidity of the vehicle is ensured by forming the body of box-like form or the equivalent thereof. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the body comprises two similar metal stampings 1 connected together in the central longitudinal plane by flanges 2, the stampings being both made with the same die. 'The form comprises a central passenger cabin 4 and end smaller compartments 5 for housing the engine and for luggage &c. Each half of the body may comprise two or more sections divided either vertically and transversely or longitudinally and transversely. As shown in Fig. 5 the roof and floor may be strengthened by corrugations 3 while a raised portion 6 may be provided for the cardan shaft. The engine may be mounted independently of the body and connected to the wheels by universal couplings. The wheels other than the driven wheels are mounted on brackets attached to the body.
