Abstract
455,143. Elevated railways. KING, D. M., 47, Balmoral Road, Hitchin, Hertfordshire. April 25, 1935, No. 12461. [Class 104 (ii)] In an overhead conveyer in which trollies are driven by an endless chain &c. carrying abutments engaging the trollies, the track is provided with a number of switches 16 for directing the trollies from the main track on to side tracks 15, and each trolley has means adapted to be set prior to travel to select automatically and operate any predetermined switch. In the form shown, the trolley 9 driven by the chain 10 has a bar 30 provided with a series of holes 31 in any one of which a pin 32 is mounted to actuate one of a number of electric contacts 17 corresponding to the number of switches. The contact 17 closes the circuit of a relay 19, which energizes a solenoid 18 connected by a cable 22 to the switch 16. The switch is pivoted at the junction 20 of the main and side tracks, and has a snap-action spring to complete its movement. After the trolley has passed the switch, the latter is returned to normal by the actuation of another contact 33 to de-energize the solenoid. The side tracks may be inclined downwards so that the trollies travel by gravity, and the switch may be returned by a portion of the side track being pivoted so that it is depressed by the trolley and actuates a contact for opening the solenoid circuit.
