Abstract

446,492. Toy railways. COLLINGS, J., 33, Marine Parade, Leigh-on-Sea, and KNIGHT, S. A., 6, Vicarage Lane, Stratford, London. July 27, 1934, No. 22039. [Class 132 (iii)] A toy railway has means for operating a brake on the vehicle comprising a brake bar f, Fig. 1, moved towards or away from an adjacent rail through slotted plates f <1> sliding on pins i, links g, bell-crank lever d<1> and operating lever b<1>. The brake bar f when operated engages the brake shoe h, Figs. 2 and 3, on the vehicle pivoted on lugs h<2> and brings the plates h<3>, which may be curved, into contact with the driving wheels. A signal c<1> may also be operated by the lever b<1> through the link j. Levers k and l can be operated to actuate a lighting switch and bell alarm. The rails are mounted on a base plate a pressed up from tin plate and having transverse extensions at a<1>. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, a chain or flexible wire m on the vehicle is located between two brake bars n, both or one of which may be movable as above described, and which may be inclined to the horizontal to increase the grip on the driving wheels and stop their rotation. The contact with the braking rail may light a lamp on the vehicle if the rail is insulated and connected to a battery. The signal operating link j may be connected as at j<2>, j<3> to an extension to operate signals upon a further part of the track.
