[Class 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In overhead conveyer in which trolleys 10 are driven along a track 11 by an endless chain 13 carrying abutments 12 engaging the trolleys, the diversion of a trolley on to a branch line, or its stoppage for the purpose of loading or unloading is effected electrically by devices in circuits controlled by depressible contacts, plungers, or the like located at the requisite positions on the track and operated selectively by keys 17 carried by or with the trolleys, the keys being formed with notches, indentations, or the like which are effective only at a predetermined switching station 18 along the track. As shown in Fig. 2 the selector key 17 is mounted on a carrier 16 pivoted to a bracket 15 on the load bar 14, and consists of plate with its leading and trailing edges bevelled to facilitate passage through the switch units. The switching units 18 each consist of a channelled body portion 19, Fig. 3, in which one or more spring loaded plungers 25 or other depressible contact devices are mounted to lie in the path of the profiled edge or edges of the selector keys 17, whereby the plungers 25 are actuated in accordance with profile selected to be effective at the respective station. The plungers may be moved to different extents and in different combinations. To allow sufficient time for the plungers to operate to close their associated circuits the selector key 17 is coupled temporarily to the body 19 of the switch in a mechanical manner by means of a pair of pivoted latches 26, and the body 19 is allowed a short travel relative to its supporting plate 20 by providing it with a pair of guide studs 21 which engage within a slot 22 in the plate 20. A tensioned spring 23 connected between these relatively movable bodies returns the body 19 to its normal position after it has been moved far enough to become disengaged from the latch 26.
