454,765. Magnifying - appliances. DETROIT DENTAL MANUFACTURING CO., 6081, 12th Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Jones, C. ; 2613, Harding Street, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A.) March 11, 1936, No. 7374. Convention date, Nov. 18, 1935, [Class 97 (i)] [See also Group XI] In apparatus of the kind comprising a magnifying lens in combination with an electric lamp to give an enlarged image of an illuminated object, the lamp is pivotally mounted on a lens-carrying ring which is adjustably mounted in an outer ring so that the lamp can be adjusted to any desired position. The invention is shown in association with a dentists' chair, the outer ring H of the lens and lamp mounting being supported from a standard A by arms C, D, E, E<1> connected by universal joints F, F<1>, G. The ring I comprising the mount for the lens J is rotatably mounted on ball bearings within the ring H, and the lamp L is connected by a universal joint to the ring I. To convey current to the lamp, the primary of a step-down transformer within the standard A is connected to the mains ; one terminal of the secondary is earthed to the frame and the other terminal is connected by a conductor passing through the universal joints to a brush S', Fig. 3, mounted in an insulating sleeve S<6> in the ring H and urged by a spring S<7> into contact with a conducting ring S<1> mounted within an insulating trough S on the ring I. The ring S<1> is connected to the lamp by a conductor passing through the universal joint by which the lamp is supported.
