Abstract
454,605. Lifts. HALL, Ltd., J. & E., 10, St. Swithin's Lane, and READ, A, A., 86, Blackheath Hill, Greenwich, both in London. April 10, 1935, No. 11164. [Class 78 (iii)] In an automatic or push-button lift system of the kind having well gate and cage gate switches so connected that the cage cannot be moved unless all these gates are closed, and having also a cage gate of the automatic selfclosing type provided with a latch so positioned with reference to a member which is moved with the gate as to lie in the path of said member and thus to hold open the gate once it has been opened, the latch is adapted to be lifted by means of a solenoid device controlled by contacts operated by the well gates of the installation so that said solenoid is energized only when all the well gates are closed, said solenoid being arranged when energized first to lift said latch, and then release it and when de-energized to permit its armature to move into a position ready to lift and release said latch again upon further energization. The latch 3, Fig. 1, is pivoted at 4 and drops behind a roller 2 on the cage gate 1 when the latter is opened. The latch is lifted through lever mechanism 5 by a solenoid 6, the winding of which is in series with the contacts of all the well gate switches. The plunger 7, Fig. 2, of the solenoid carries a member 8 to which is pivoted at 9a an abutment 9 for engaging the end 10 of the first lever of the mechanism 5. On energization of the solenoid, the latch is lifted, but it returns to its original position when the abutment passes beyond the end 10. When the solenoid is de-energized, the plunger returns to its original position, and the abutment 9 pivots upwardly about 9a against gravity or spring bias and falls behind the end 10 ready for the next operation.
