Abstract

1,233,322. Actuation of switches. UNELEC. 3 April, 1969 [5 April, 1968], No. 17675/69. Heading H1N. A device for controlling the opening and closing of a switch of the kind in which opening and closing are effected by releasing respective energy storing springs (not shown), comprises two independent mechanisms for respectively controlling the release of the opening and closing springs, the closing mechanism comprising three members 7, 16, 23 acting in series, one upon the other through two releasable couplings 14, 15 and 21, 22, one of which may be released by each of three other members 31, 36, 43 which are respectively operated by a remote device preventing closure; actuating of the opening mechanism; and by the contacts being in the closed position. The energy storing springs are rewound immediately after release by electric motors (not shown). The first member 7 is pivoted to an operating lever 2 which can be moved manually or by an electromagnet acting upon pin 5. The third member 23 is pivoted to a lever 25 which acts on an arm 1 to trip the closing spring. Members 7, 23 are biased by torsion springs 11, 28 into engagement with pins 15, 21 on the second member 16. Moving lever 2 in the direction of arrow 52 releases the closing spring; as the contacts close a cam 48 rotates allowing a follower portion 47 of lever 43 to fall so that a pin 50 strikes member 7 to disengage it from pin 15. Thus, maintained or repeated actuation of lever 2 cannot re-release the spring while the contacts are closed; pumping is prevented. The opening mechanism includes a lever 34 which may be operated manually or electromagnetically to release the opening spring through linkage (not shown). When lever 34 is actuated in the direction of arrow 54 a pin 41 strikes the member 7 to disengage it from pin 15 so that closing cannot be initiated while the opening lever is actuated. The member 23 can be disengaged from pin 21 by an electromagnet energized remotely and acting through a link 31.
