Abstract
248,588. Smith, Major, & Stevens, Ltd., and Stcvens, P. H. April 17, 1925. Cage lifts.-In lifts which are stopped at any floor by the attendant by the projection of a roller mounted on the lift into position to engage a ramp mounted in the well adjacent to the floor, the roller 6 is mounted on a lever 5 pivoted at 7 to an adjustable member 8 controlled by the attendant and the movable part 3 of the switch 2 controlling the hoisting mechanism is mounted on a slidable rod 4 which is pivotally connected to the lever 5. A rod 13 pivoted to the lever 5 is acted on by a spring 15 in such manner as to tend to keep the switch closed. The member 8 is pivoted to one arm 9 of a two-armed lever pivoted at 10 on the base plate 1. The other arm 11 of the lever is connected to the core 12 of a solenoid 12<a>. When the attendant closes a switch, the solenoid is energized and the consequent movement of the lever 9, 11 causes the projection of the roller 6 into position to engage the ramp 16 Fig. 2. As the roller mounts the ramp 16, the switch 2 is opened, Fig. 3, and the lift stops. When the attendant again energizes the solenoid 12<a>, the spring 15 effects the closure of the switch 2, and the lift starts. Alternatively, a pedal could be connected with the arm 11 to rock the lever 5, or to close, a switch and energize the coil 12a.
