Abstract
532,904. Control mechanism for lifts. DON BROS. BUIST & CO., Ltd., and THOMSON, F. M. Sept. 23, 1939, No. 26529. [Class 78 (iii)] The handing-rope of a lift is locked by mechanism in series with cage and well switches so that (1) the gate at any landing can only be opened when the cage is at that landing ; (2) the cage cannot be moved from a landing until all cage and well gates are closed, and (3) the handing-rope is locked automatically whenever any gate is opened. The hand-rope 1 is locked normally by a cam 3 which presses a movable shoe 2 inwards to force the rope against a fixed shoe 11. Depression of the hand-lever or treadle 8 against the action of the spring 10 releases the rope. The weight of the core 16 of a solenoid 15 overbalances a weighted lever 13 and causes it to register with a spur 12 on the cam shaft thus preventing operation of the treadle. When all gates are closed a circuit is completed through the solenoid, the core is lifted and the lever 13 tilts by gravity to release the spur. The treadle can then be operated to release the rope. Electric switches 17, Fig. 4, for example rockable mercury switches, are arranged at each floor and are all wired in series with the cage gate switch 19 and the coil 15 of the solenoid. Also at each landing a catch 21 in the well is engaged by a projection 24 on the well gate to lock the latter in the closed position. A striker plate on the cage moves the member 21 out of engagement with the member 24 as the cage arrives at the landing. A lamp 25 may be in circuit with the gate switches.
