Abstract
374,073. Operating and locking lift cages and doors. WAYGOODOTIS, Ltd., 54, Fetter Lane, London. - (Otis Elevator Co.; 260, 11th Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) Feb. 24, 1931, No. 33382. Divided on 374,066. [Class 78 (iii).] In an electric lift-gate operating mechanism, the circuit of the hoisting motor is opened unless the gate is closed and the landing door fastened, and the opening of the hoisting motor circuit to stop the cage at any floor automatically initiates the opening of the cage gate. In Fig. 1 the gate 26 is operated by a lever 28, which is moved by a motor-driven crank 24 and rod 30. The lever operates limit switches 39, 40, by means of adjustable abutments, and also opens a switch 56 in the hoisting motor circuit unless the gate is closed. Also connected to the lever 28, by a chain, is a cam 70, which is lowered when the gate is opened, to operate a landing-door latch 62 carrying a contact 70 in the hoisting motor circuit. In the control circuit shown in Fig. 7, the opening operation is initiated by a push button 44, which energizes a relay 45, through limit switch 39, to complete a circuit shunting the button through contacts 46 and a circuit for the motor 18 through contacts 47 and resistance 42. The closing operation is similarly effected by pushbutton 48 and relay 50. In addition, the opening operation is automatically initiated when the cage stops at a floor by means of a relay 51 which, when de-energized by opening the lift control circuit, closes a circuit shunting the pushbutton 44 to energize the opening relay 45 ; the contact 55 of relay 51 is conducting on its upper surface only, and electrical connection is thus made by the armature 49 only when the latter is falling ; the contact 55 is hinged, and is spring-biased to the normal position.
