[Class 78 (ii)] Electric plant.-In a lift system of the kind in which by the actuation of a single push-button at a floor, the controlling mechanism is so affected that the lift is brought to the caller and thereafter caused to travel to the required floor, calls are registered on a group of electromagnetic storage devices, such as relays, which are k n in number, where n is the number of floors served by the lift, and k is a constant. Each floor has three relays corresponding with the three classes of calls, viz., "effective," "store up," and " store down," and the actuation of a button operates one relay in each of two floor groups, these relays being determined not only by the position of the lift relatively to the caller, but also by the direction in which the lift is, or was previously, travelling, and by the direction in which the caller wishes to travel. The " effective " relay is operated when the lift is travelling towards the caller, and in the direction that he requires to travel. The " store down " relay is operated when the lift is travelling away from the caller, and the required direction of travel is downwards, and the " store up " relay is operated when the direction is upwards. The lift travels in one direction until all " effective " calls are answered, and then reverses and answers " stored " calls for the opposite direction. When the lift stops at any floor, it remains at this floor for a predetermined time even though the doors are not opened. At the end of this time, if the lift is not called, it may, after a further delay, travel to a predetermined parking position. If the lift remains out of use for a further period, the power supply may be cut - off automatically. Specifications 354,847, [Group XXXVII], and 431,594 are referred to.
