454,498. Colour photography. KODAK, Ltd., Kingsway, London.-(Eastman Kodak Co. ; 343, State Street, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) March 29, 1935, No. 9869. Addition to 427,518. [Class 98 (ii)] In processing photographic elements consisting of two or more layers containing colour record images on a single support, as described in the parent Specification in which the diffusion of the bleaching bath or developing bath is controlled by the addition of water-soluble loading agents, the agents are such as to produce an anti-swelling effect by increasing the viscosity of the bath or by producing a repelling effect on the gelatin. As loading agents sugar, cellulose derivatives, alcohols containing more than two carbon atoms such as normal propyl, iso-propyl, butyl, and amyl alcohols, ketones such as acetone, alkyl- or alkyloxy-amines, acylated or not, e.g. methyl-, ethyl-, propylamine triethanolamine, N-methyl acetamide, and acetamide, polyhydric alcohols such as glycol, ethylene and propylene glycol, dihydroxyethylether, and glycerol, colloids such as gelatin, glue, gum arable, gum tragacanth, dextrine, and starches, and inert salts such as sodium chloride and potassium sulphate may be used. Examples are given of bleaching baths containing (1) quinone, methyl alcohol, HC1, sugar, and sodium chloride; (2) glycerine, isopropyl alcohol, quinone, and HCl ; (3) ethylene glycol, quinone, and HC1 ; of a stop bath containing sodium bicarbonate, glycerine, and isopropyl alcohol; developing baths containing (1) hydroquinone, sodium sulphite, KOH, and Na2SO4 ; (2) amidol, sodium sulphite, and Na2SO4 ; and stop baths for terminating the development comprising (1) sodium bisulphite and glacial acetic acid or (2) glacial acetic acid alone.
