Abstract

453,690. Closures for canisters, boxes, jars, &c. VACSEAL CONTAINERS, Ltd., 16, Great George Street, Westminster, and PHILLIPS, T. W., 65, Chancery Lane, London. Feb. 10, 1936. No. 3947. [Class 125 (iii)] Closures for canisters, boxes, cans, jars, and like containers comprise a flat rubber band held in tension in a portion of its width over a rib 36 or within a groove 35 on the cap or the container and engaged at that part where it is deformed due to stretch over the rib or over one side of the groove by a flat taper surface on the container or the cap, whereby a free strip 37 of the band is left above the area of engagement when the cap is applied during a sealing process, such as a vacuum process. The cap may be dished and the rim of the container flared outwardly ; and the skirt of the cap and the rim of the container may be equally flared to permit resealing after the removal of the band. The band is provided with a pull-out tab to facilitate the breaking of the vacuum.
