Abstract

453,231. Portable crop-sprinklers. BURNSIDE, C. F. M., Mill Cottage, North Lancing. Sussex. March 4, 1935, No. 6753. [Class 47 (ii)] [See also Groups XXVIII, XXIV, and XXVI] A portable pumping set for agricultural use comprises a 1.p. pump for watering and a h.p. pump for spraying, which are used alternatively. The pumps are driven by an electric motor, or by an internal-combustion engine 1. The plant is mounted on a barrow, comprising side members 9, extended to form handles 13, and united by a tray 3, which may form an exhaust silencer, and by the axle 10 of a wheel 32. The l.p. pump 4 is preferably rotary and is directly coupled to the engine, while the h.p. pump 8, preferably a gear pump, is driven from the spindle 6 of the l.p. pump through a detachable coupling 7. When the h.p. pump is in use the l.p. pump runs idly, while, when the l.p. pump is in use the h.p. pump is disconnected. Water is supplied to the cooling jacket of the engine by pipes 18, 19 from the discharge 16 and inlet 14 of the l.p. pump when that pump is in use. When the h.p. pump is in use the pipes 18, 19 are closed by cocks 36, 37 and pipes 20, 21, leading to the discharge and inlet of the h.p. pump, are opened by means of cocks 34, 35. An adjustable spring-pressed valve 33 in the pipe 20 regulates the amount of the h.p. discharge which passes to the engine jacket.
