Abstract
452,885. Working metals; making metal stock. ALUMINIUM, Ltd., Canada Life Building, Toronto, Canada.-(Assignees of Templin, R. L.) June 21, 1935, No. 17913. Convention date, June 22, 1934. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Ingots or billets of metal stock are forged, drawn or otherwise worked so that they are first deformed and then restored to original form. The working operations may comprise an extrusion operation followed by an upsetting or forging operation, a forging operation followed by drawing through dies, or two forging operations. Locomotive connecting rods may be made from a billet worked by the method already described and subsequently reduced in differential manner and forged to the required size. The differential reduction may be 50 per cent at one end and 80 per cent at the other. In the case of aluminium the working of the billet may take place at a temperature of between 500 and 840‹ F. Aeroplane propellers may be produced from the stock.
