Abstract
452,726. Aircraft structures. VICKERS (AVIATION), Ltd., and WALLIS, B. N., Byfleet Road, Weybridge, Surrey. Feb. 27, 1935, No. 6254. [Class 4] Aircraft fuselages, wings, or other bodies are constructed of longitudinal members a, a<1>, &c., and two series geodetic members b, c, continuous between the longitudinal members, shaped to the contour of the body, of greater depth than width, twisted about their neutral axes so that they are normal to the surface and recessed at their intersections with one another so that the two series can fit into each other. As shown, the members b, c are formed of channels having inturned flanges. Gusset plates d extend across the interrupted flanges C<SP>2> and are riveted to the flanges of the members whose webs are connected by angle plates e. The longitudinal members are built up of back-to-back channels a4, a<5> with stiffening strips a<6>, a<7>, a<8>. The geodetic members, at the ends of the structure are attached to a hoop.
