Abstract
Vanadium is recovered from substances of poor vanadium content which also contain alumina, for instance from bauxite, by decomposing the initial material with alkali hydroxide and/or alkali carbonate by a wet or dry process to obtain an alkaline solution which is concentrated to 20--40 DEG B<\>ae., and cooled to 10--15 DEG C. in the presence of alkali phosphates and arsenates to precipitate a mixture or complex salt of alkali vanadate, alkali phosphate, and alkali arsenate. When the initial material does not contain phosphorus or arsenic, alkali phosphates and arsenates are added to the alkaline solution before the precipitation step.
