Abstract

451,893. Delivering measured quantities of liquids. KEAY, R. W., 3, Southend Road, Beckenham, Kent. Aug. 20, 1935, Nos. 23312/35 and 1869/36. [Class 106 (v)] Apparatus for delivering measured quantities of liquid from a bottle comprises a measuring chamber adapted to be attached to the neck of the bottle so that when the bottle is inverted liquid passes through a tube B into the measuring chamber and when the bottle is returned to normal position the liquid is retained in the chamber by the action of an automatically operating non-return valve D, the measured quantity being subsequently discharged through an outlet tube G projecting laterally from the bottom of the chamber and controlled by a valve K adapted to be opened manually against the action of a spring L, The outlet tube G contains an air vent pipe H also controlled by the valve K. The measuring chamber comprises a hollow metal base A to the top of which an inverted glass cup N is clamped by a protecting cap P screwed on to the base A. A cross-bar E at the upper part of the base forms a guide for the pin of the non-return valve D and as a result of friction between the pin and the guide when the bottle is in an approximately horizontal position, if the bottle is rotated to its normal position slowly, the valve remains open for a time sufficient for the contents of the measuring chamber to flow back into the bottle.
