Abstract

451,816. Milling - cutters, boring - heads, reamers, &c. WEDDELL, R. R., 2107, Rockton Avenue, Rockford, Illinois, U.S.A. Nov. 13, 1935, No. 31404. Convention date, Feb. 11. [Class 83 (iii)] In an inserted-blade milling, boring, reaming, &c. cutter the blades 13 are secured in tapered recesses 12 in the body 10 by means of direct acting wedges 14 and transverse serrations 21 on the rear faces of the blades and recesses. The front and rear faces of each blade are parallel to each other and intersecting cutting edges 18, 20 are formed in the plane of the front face 23. The serrations 21 are parallel to the cutting edge 18. An end face 24 of each blade is formed at an angle to the cutting edge 20 and the serrations 21, and abuts on a wedge shaped flange 25 of the wedge 14 so that if the blade is adjusted radially in the recess by the width of one serration the cutting edge 20 will be adjusted axially by a fraction of a serration. A second flange 27 on each wedge abuts on a recess 28 in the body 10 to locate the wedge axially. The construction may be applied to side, end and hollow milling cutters and boring, reaming and facing cutters.
