Abstract
451,624. Road and rail vehicles. DYSON, J., and DYSON & CO., Ltd., R. A., 76, Grafton Street, Liverpool. April 25, 1935, No. 12419. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i)] A road vehicle in a combined road and rail transportation is adapted to be supported on a railway truck by means of a cross beam, the ends of which are adapted to be carried by supports at the sides of the truck. As shown the trailer portion 2 of a tractor-trailer combination is provided with road and rail wheels 3, 5 at the rear end and is supported by the turntable 4 of a tractor 1 at the front. The rail wheels 5 are shown on the rails 8 of the railway wagon 7 and a front cross beam 9 provided with skids 10 is supported at its ends on raised portions 13 of the rails 8. A jack 14 is employed to lower the front end of the trailer so as to bring the beam ends down on the parts 13 when the tractor 1 is disconnected. In a modification, the beam 9 is not connected to the trailer but is adapted to be placed in position, its ends resting on supports 17 carried by columns 16 at each side and the supports 17 being adjustable by screw or other means 18. In another modification in which the beam 9 is carried by the trailer, the beam ends may be hinged to the main part of the beam and be adapted to be turned to lie alongside the trailer body.
