Abstract

451,167. Roller bearings. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Aktiebolaget Svenska Kullagerfabriken; 17, Artillerigatan, Gothenburg, Sweden) Oct. 29, 1935, No. 29888. [Class 12 (i)] The crank-shaft of an internal-combustion engine is mounted in roller bearings which seal the crank-case against loss of compression by providing a narrow sealing space formed between a flange 18 carried by one race member and a sealing ring 20. As shown, a bearing 12 has a pair of race rings 17, the inner flanges 18 of which co-operate with a sealing ring 20 fixed to the shaft 11. In bearing 13, the sealing rings 22 also space the bearing rollers from the crank cheeks. The sealing rings 26 in bearing 14 are mounted on the inner race ring 23. One or more additional sealing rings 27 may be fitted in the outer race ring, the bore of the ring extending closely to the inner race member to form a narrow sealing closure.
