Abstract

450,897. Locking cycle wheels. MURRAY, J., 8, Kew Road, Formby, Lancashire. April 30, 1935, No. 12825. [Class 79 (iii)] To prevent unauthorized use, one of the wheels of a motor or other cycle is adapted to be locked by means of a T-shaped element D radially slidable in a squared centre part of the bearing spindle A and normally withdrawn within the wheel hub J which is surrounded by an outer casing L. A rocking lever E, mounted in a slot in the spindle and actuated through cables F by a control lever M, is adapted to raise the element D so that the head I thereof bears against the inside of the rotating hub J until it is able to emerge through an opening Q therein, the control lever at the same time temporarily applying the wheel brake. The hub is slotted for nine-tenths of its circumference to the width of the stem of the element D so that rotation may continue to enable the head I, which is serrated on its under-surface, to be brought down, by return movement of the control lever M, into engagement with serrations J<1> formed on the outer surface of the hub, springs K attached to the inner surface of the casing L assisting the action. To facilitate re-housing of the locking element in the hub, the cycle wheel may be marked in the manner of a clock face, so that the position of the wheel at which the head I will be above the opening Q in the hub may be noted. A spot light is provided for night use.
