450,465. Sanitary and hygienic devices. YOUNG, L. W., and PIDDUCK, G. D., 33, Stanley Road, Northwood Hills, Middlesex. Jan. 17, 1935, No. 1647. [Class 40 (iv)] A device for maintaining the mouthpiece and/or earpiece of a telephone in a clean and sanitary condition comprises an unattached stand constituted by a box-like member interposed between the base 23 of the telephone and the table 24 on which it is mounted. The box has a reservoir for a disinfecting liquid 4 and a compartment in which is mounted an air bellows 11 provided with a tube 14 leading to a space above a conical nozzle 16 to which liquid is supplied by a pipe 17. An apertured plate 18 co-operating with the nozzle is positioned by the spigoted end of a flexible delivery pipe 20 directed towards the mouthpiece of the hand-set 22. The bellows is operated by pressing the set towards the support 24, a flap 9 attached to the bellows being hinged to the box at 10 and provided with feet 8. The bellows may be operated by the action of replacing the receiver on the base 23. According to the Provisional Specification, the downward movement of the base may operate a plunger in a cylinder to force liquid through one or more spray nozzles or liquid under pressure in a container may be projected on the telephone part by means of a valve momentarily opened when the hand-set is replaced on the base.
