Abstract

405,458. Spray-producers. KRANTZ, H., 10, Wetherby Terrace, South Kensington, London. May 18, 1933, No. 3119. [Class 69 (iii).] A spray or jet forming means for disinfecting the mouthpiece of a telephone as shown in Figs. 1, 3, 4 and 6 comprises a disinfectant container 2 closed at its upper end by a cap 3 which is perforated for the passage of a rod 4 carrying a piston 5 and surrounded by a spring 7. The rod and spring are housed in a member 8 provided with spaced projecting arms forming a bracket 9 to which is secured the upper end of an arm 11 slotted at 12 to form a guide for a screw 13 projecting from a vertically disposed rod 14. The lower end of this rod is formed with a projection 14a adapted to lie beneath the receiver hook c whilst its upper end is pivoted at 17 to a boss 18 on a lever 16 pivoted at 15 to the outer end of bracket 9, the free end of lever 16 engaging the outer surface of the head 6 of piston rod 4. When the receiver is replaced on the hook c, the piston 5 is depressed against the action of spring 7 to eject disinfectant through the tube 21 projecting through the cap 3 and connected by a flexible tube 21a to an exteriorly grooved tube 21c, Fig. 4, screwed into a nozzle 21b adapted to be secured to the telephone mouthpiece by a clip 22. The tube 21 is surrounded by a larger diameter tube 23 which is connected to the nozzle 21b by a tube 24, an air space being provided between the tubes 21, 21a and tubes 23, 24 so that air is forced out through tubes 23, 24 to atomize liquid issuing from tube 21c., Figs. 14 and 16 show a modification in which the disinfectant is discharged only after a predetermined number of calls. This construction comprises a container 36 in the upper part of a cylinder 35 communicating by a stem 38 with a closed thin metal box-like body 39 carrying a pin 41 passing through the partition 36a. Slidably mounted within the lower portion of cylinder 35 is a tubular member 43 adapted to be depressed step by step against the action of a spring 47 as the pivoted lever 44 is actuated by successive replacements of the receiver on its hook until the member 50 releases the spring 51 when the part 43 is moved sharply upwards by spring 47 and strikes the pin 41 to flex the bottom of the box 39 inwardly and eject disinfectant through the tube 42.
