Abstract
450,329. Changing signs. VIBRA-LITE, Ltd., 1411, Crescent Street, Montreal, Canada. Feb. 20, 1935, No. 5519. Convention date, Nov. 1, 1934. [Class 3 (i)] In apparatus in which the appearance of a display is altered by change of colour of the light with which it is illuminated, two sources of illumination 21, 22 are provided, the display being lit continuously by the source 22 and intermittently by the source 21. The sources of light may themselves be of the required colours, or filters 25, 26 may be interposed in the beams. The source 21 may be an electric lamp intermittently lit by a motor driven switch 34, or the beam may be interrupted at intervals by a shutter 27 oscillated into and out of the beam. The shutter is mounted on a shaft 28 carrying a spring-retracted armature 30 which is attracted by a magnet 31 energized by the switch 34. The design is in two non- neutral and preferably complementary colours, corresponding to those of the illuminating rays, and the frequency of illumination by the intermittent colour is such as to give a pulsating movement to the display, with apparent periodic change of size, due to persistence of vision.
