Abstract
449,920. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP MACHINERIEEN EN APPARATEN FABRIEKEN MEAF, 30, Croeselaan, Utrecht, Holland. Feb. 28, 1935, Nos. 6416, 6417, 6418, and 6419. Convention dates, May 7, 1934, Oct. 11, 1934, Oct. 19, 1934, and Dec. 24, 1934. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Sept. 2, 1935.] [Class 39 (i)] A valve for ultra-short wave use comprises a resonator having an outer vessel-shaped member closed at one end and an inner member, the two members being conductive on their adjacent surfaces. In one form, Fig. 1, an inner conductor 34 having a grid-portion 35 is introduced into a flask-shaped outer container 31 through the neck 33. Metal walls 38 detune the space inside the conductor 34. The portion of the conductor 34 between 40 and 41 serves as a quarter-wave aerial, and counterbalance discs 42, 45 are fitted, one to the end of conductor 31 and the other to a sleeve 43. The cathode leads are taken through a pinch 46 and a vacuum seal is effected at 40. In a modification, the cathode and grid leads are taken out through a pinch in an extension of the bottom of the container 31 which forms with an extension on the bottom of the conductor 34 a quarter-wave shortcircuiting condenser. The aerial is enclosed in a glass tube sealed to the disc 42. In another modification, (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), the outer member may comprise one or two toroidal portions connected to cylindrical portions. The valve may be coupled to a Lecher circuit at right-angles to the axis by a pair of members corresponding to, but closer together than the discs 42, 45, Fig. 1, surrounded by shielding cylinders transverse to the axis and one at each side of the tube. In a modification of the valve shown in Fig. 1, an electrode may be mounted on insulators inside the member 31, which may be connected to the member 34 at a nodal point. The cathode may be held in tension by a hook having a long tension spring secured in an insulator inside the member 34 which then extends through the base of the container and is provided with a glass pinch for the cathode leads. In another form, Fig. 8, a casing 111 has an extension 130 to which is sealed a pinch 131 carrying the cathode 128. The container has a grid-portion 126 and a disc-shaped plate 112 is mounted inside it on insulators 122. A quarter-wave aerial is mounted on the plate 112 and is enclosed in a sealing tube 136. The casing may have a toroidal portion. In another modification, Fig. 10, the cathode 141, grid 142 and plate 143 are at right angles to a disc-shaped resonator comprising a disc-shaped container 146 and a member 144. The grid may be connected to the container and the plate 143 to the member 144. In modifications, the split anodes of a magnetron may be connected to the internal member. In all cases the surfaces bounding the resonance space may be highly polished and may consist of gold or silver platings on a base of a vacuumsmelted nickel, chrome iron, chrome nickel, or a ceramic material. Specification 429,863 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also subject-matter which is contained in Specification 452,490. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
