Abstract
449,399. Endless-belt conveyers. QUICK, C. G., BALL, D. A., and WHITEHEAD, W. A., 109, Borough Road, London. Dec. 21, 1934, No. 36729. [Class 78 (i)] [See also Group XVI] Delivery mechanism for use with printing - machines comprises a fly delivery device, and an endless conveyer device disposed to receive on its operative run products from the fly, and means permitting the conveyer and fly to yield relatively to one another to increase the distance between the operative run and the fly. This arrangement prevents or minimizes " choking " between the fly and the conveyer. The invention is described as applied to the delivery mechanism described in Specification 427,438, [Group XVI]. Two flys 1, 2 are employed, to which products are fed successively, the two flys operating alternately and each taking and delivering products each to its own conveyer. The conveyer belts 3, 4 pass around pulleys 5, 6, the pulleys 5 being secured to shafts 7 journalled in brackets 26 mounted to pivot at 27 about horizontal axes on fixed brackets 28, the height of the shafts 7 being adjustable, and the pulleys 6 being rotatably supported by brackets 8 carried by cross shafts 9 which at one side are journalled in lug extensions on a bracket 11 and at the other side are journalled in a casing 31 (not shown in Fig. 1). The bracket 11 and casing 31 are mounted on tubular members 12, and are supported by the bosses of worm-wheels 13 fast with the members 12 and in mesh with worms 14 journalled in the bracket 11 and casing 31. The members 12 are freely slidable along fixed vertical rods 16, but are normally maintained in the upward position by the action of a pair of weighted levers 21 connected to a bar 19 which has screw connections with both members 12. The pivots 23<1> of the levers 21 can move horizontally. Initial adjustments of the bracket 11 and casing 31 are effected by turning hand wheels 15 connected to the worms 14. At one side of the conveyers, arms 25 are journalled on the shafts 9 and 7, and at the other side are other arms 25<1> (not shown in Fig. 1), which are journalled on the casing 31 and the shafts 7. The arms 25<1> are hollow and enclose chain and sprocket drives whereby a main driving shaft in the casing 31 drives both shafts 7. In a modification, means is provided whereby each conveyer 3, 4 can be vertically adjusted. In this arrangement each of the brackets 8 is connected to a cross member secured to side arms which connect the shafts 9 and 7, and the cross member is secured through adjustable links to brackets slidable on the vertical posts 16 and secured to a cross beam. The adjustable links are pivoted on blocks capable of being adjusted vertically by screwthreaded rods. Also, in this arrangement, the casing 31 does not move vertically with the pulleys 6, but the drive is transmitted to the shafts 7 from a common shaft in the casing as before. The invention may be applied to an arrangement employing only one fly and one conveyer. If desired, the shafts 7 may drive further conveyer belts or chains 49.
