Abstract

528,187. Endless-belt conveyers. ROSE, A. G., and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd. April 18, 1939, No. 11655. [Class 78 (i)] In conveyers for conveying cardboard boxes &c. from a sealing device to a delivery station and exerting pressure thereupon during the movement, the pressure rollers which bear upon the upper belt are supported at one end only on arms pivoted about axes parallel to the axis of the belt driving roller, said arms being so arranged that alternate rollers are supported at opposite ends. Each pressure roller 36, Fig. 1, with the exception of the end ones, is rotatably mounted on a spindle 37 carried in brackets 38, Fig. 2, secured to a rod 39 which is attached to an arm 41 pivoted at 42 to the upper side rails 8. Spring means may be provided on the arms to cause additional downward pressure. The rollers nearest to the driving roller 26 and idler roller 28 are mounted in pairs of arms 43, 44, respectively, which are disposed to clear the adjacent arms 41. A forked lever 47 carrying an adjustable weight 48 is secured to the shaft 46 to which the arms 44 are attached. A roller 49 is provided on this shaft for the belt 27 to bear against when it is pushed inwardly by a container. Slack in the upper run of the belt 27 is taken up by a roller 51 which is mounted in a pivoted weighted member 52. The driving roller 26 is free on its shaft 24 and carries a pawl 33 which engages a ratchet wheel 32 on the shaft. The latter is driven by a motor 63 through reduction gear 64 and chain-and-sprocket gearing 62. The driving roller 12 for the lower belt 13 is driven from the shaft 24 through chain-and-sprocket gearing. The belt 13 is tensioned by a roller 19 mounted in arms 21 and connected to a screw adjusting device 22. As a container is fed from the sealing device 72 it strikes the bar 74 of a switch member 76 and starts the motor 63. The belts 13, 27 are driven until the bar 74 springs back behind the container.
