449,072. Fire -extinguishing. RICARD, P. G. E., 71, Rue du Lombard, Brussels. Nov. 16, 1935, No. 31828. Convention date, June 20. [Class 47 (ii)] In a grenade comprising a rupturable, for example cardboard, container 1 for an extinguishing powder and a tube 2 supporting a bursting charge 10, the tube 2 is formed of cardboard and is secured in an air-tight manner to the container 1 and to a partition 6 which is fixed in an air-tight manner in the container. The space 7 above the partition is filled with a powdered mixture of sodium bicarbonate, kaolin, and sand, and the space 8 serves as an air chamber to enable the grenade to float on a burning liquid. A ring of cork 18 is fixed on the container. A disc 11 embedded in the powder is secured to the capsule 9 of the charge 10 to hold it against movement. The tube 2 is provided with a tamping 17 and may be fitted with a long handle 19. The charge is provided with a fuse 12 passing through a tube 13 and covered by an inflammable cap 14, and with a detonator 15 connected to leads 16 for electrical operation. In a modification, the container is spherical.
