Abstract
448,848. Cutting-off lengths of fabric. GOODMAN, E., 666, Bolton Road, and POTTER, R, 17, Beverley Road, Highfield Estate, both in Pendlebury, Manchester. Aug. 26, 1935, No. 24509. [Class 31 (i)] [See also Group XVI] In a machine for feeding and cutting-off predetermined lengths of textile fabrics, wherein a guide is provided for the fabric as it passes from one pair to a second pair of feed rollers and severing means is associated with the guide, the guide comprises upper and lower clamping means operable to hold the fabric on each side of the severing means during the severing operation. The fabric d passes from a roll on a shaft and is fed by two pairs of feed rollers b, c. Upper and lower guide plates g are provided between the pairs of feed rollers, the upper one being movable to facilitate threading of the fabric. Pressure is applied to the upper plate so that the fabric is gripped on each side of the knife during the cutting operation and the knife which projects through slots in the guide plates is mounted on a transverse belt, so as to be movable transversely of the fabric for the cutting operation. Guides for the edges of the cloth may be provided in the guide plates being adjustable for cloth of different widths. Pairs of upper and lower conveyer belts k carrying transverse rods l grip the material and carry it forward over a table a until a knock-off mechanism stops the conveyer and feed rollers and starts the transverse belt carrying the knife. The knock-off mechanism operates after a predetermined length of fabric has been drawn forward, this being measured by a knock-off lever carried by the transverse gripping bars. When the knife reaches the end of its traverse, the feed rollers and convever belts recommence to feed the fabric, the severed length being finally allowed to fall on to the table a. The table may be provided with a rising floor which can be raised to the level of the conveyer belts by screw jacks or the like. The feed-rollers and clamping and cutting mechanism may form a removable unit for use with a cutting-out machine. A severed length may be rewound on a card or roller, a length of paper to form a wrapping being simultaneously wound on to the roller &c.
