Abstract
448,671. Opening and cleaning asbestos fibres. WENZEL, E., 17, Wettinerstrasse, Aue, Saxony, Germany. Dec. 4, 1935, No. 33628. [Class 120 (i)] A Crighton opener and cleaner for asbestos fibres comprising beaters b surrounded by a coned grid or sieve c, Figs. 1 and 2, is provided with vibratory sieves on to which the fibres loosened by the beaters are passed in order to separate out particles of mineral and other impurities. In apparatus comprising a horizontal opener the material enters by a feed opening o, Fig. 1, and passes from the beater through an opening m on to a vibratory sieve r and then is drawn by a suction fan e up a shoot h which includes a second vibratory sieve r<1>. Boxes k, k<1> are provided below the sieves r, r<1> to receive foreign material, and the sieves are oscillated from a common shaft w. In a modification incorporating a vertical opener, Fig. 2, the material passes therefrom over three sieves r, r<1>, r<2> having boxes k, k<1>, k<2> and oscillated from the shaft w by rods p, p<1>, p<2>.
