Abstract

A process for the production of a dehydrating agent for drying gases consists in impregnating carbon with an aqueous solution of calcium chloride. 55 kilograms of charcoal in pieces 5--20 millimetres in size are taken after passing 4 hours in a stove at a temperature 110--120 DEG . While still hot the charcoal is impregnated preferably in vacuo with an aqeuous solution of calcium chloride having a density of 1,38 and containing 38,6 per cent actual calcium chloride. After complete impregnation the product is dried by suction or in a centrifugal dryer. The product is then desiccated in a sheet metal tower supplied with a current of hot air rising from 140 to 170 DEG . There then remains 100 kilograms of dry product of which 45 per cent is anhydrous calcium chloride. It is stated to fix 70 to 75 per cent of its weight of water. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 357,812.
