Abstract

Symmetrical di-(arylamino)-hydroxybenzenes and arylaminodihydroxybenzenes are manufactured by heating symmetrical triaminobenzene, in the form of a salt with an inorganic acid, with a primary aromatic amine in the presence of water. In examples, 1 : 3 : 5-triaminobenzene trihydrochloride is heated, in the presence of water, with: (1) aniline to produce 1 : 3 : 5-di-(phenylamino)-hydroxybenzene; (2) p-nitraniline to yield 1 : 3 : 5-(4<1>-nitrophenylamino)-dihydroxybenzene and 1 : 3 : 5-di-(4<1>-nitrophenylamino)-hydroxybenzene. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also examples of the reaction of 1 : 3 : 5-triaminobenzene trihydrochloride with p-anisidine and with p-chloraniline, and of triaminobenzene trisulphate with aniline. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
