Abstract
Hydrazine dyes are obtained by causing a 3 : 5-dinitro-2-halogenbenzoic acid or ester or nuclear substitution product thereof to react with hydrazine or a primary aliphatic or aromatic substitution product thereof. The products give brown shades on wool. According to examples, 3 : 5-dinitro-2-chlorbenzoic acid is condensed with p-phenylhydrazine sulphonic acid, hydrazine hydrate, and phenylhydrazine-m-carboxylic acid, and the methyl ester is condensed with phenylhydrazine. The preparation of dyes from the above acid and hydrazine-acetic acid ethyl-ester-hydrochloride, and from 2 : 6-dichloro-3 : 5-dinitrobenzoic acid, obtainable by nitrating the 2 : 6-dichloro compound, and phenylhydrazine, is also described.
