Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling a diazotized aromatic amine with an o -halogenacylaminonaphthol sulphonic acid or a derivative thereof. They dye wool in even shades fast to fulling. In examples the following dyestuffs are specified (1) aniline or p-toluidine --> o -chloracetyl-H acid, (2) aniline, m-aminobenzaldehyde or 4-ethylacetylamino-2-aminotoluene --> o -chloracetyl-K acid, (3) o-toluidine --> o -chloracetyl-J acid, (4) aniline --> o -chloracetyl-2 : 8 : 6-acid, (5) aniline --> o -chlorpropionyl-K acid. Similar dyestuffs are obtained using o -bromacetyl- or o -bromopropionylaminonaphthol sulphonic acids. Omega-halogenacyl-periaminonaphthol sulphonic acids are made from the corresponding periaminonaphthol sulphonic acid and the corresponding o -halogen acid chloride.
