[Class 87 (i)] [See also Group V] Solid or hollow pillars, columns or pipes are produced by acting on structural plastic material by stricklers which are carried in a frame which rotates on a vertical axis around the article. A carriage 14 is supported by wheels 15 running on a smooth face circular track 11 on a base 10 around a centre post 13. Bevel pinions 17 provided with sprocket wheels 19 are mounted loosely on the axles of the wheels 15 and engage a circular rack rail 12. The base 14 carries a demountable frame 20 which has a cross member 22 with a centre bearing 21 for a core or mandrel 23 extending downwards to a non-rotating work table 30 fixed on the head of the centre post 13. Vertical members 25 serve as guide rails for the carriers 27 of a work platform 31 on which strickler plates 26 are detachably mounted, the members 27 being adapted to be traversed vertically by chains 28 passing over the sprockets 19 and idler sprockets 29. In operation the core 23 having been set up and rendered with plastic material, the frame 20 is rotated, the stricklers thus being moved vertically to give a desired helically fluted effect. For producing reeded, segmental or straight fluted columns strickler plates 39 are arranged vertically in carriers that are pressed by springs 35 against a templet 32 and the frame rotated as before ; in this case the chains 28 are removed.
