[Class 83 (iv).] In a blowpipe apparatus for cutting metals a carrier rotatable about a vertical axis constitutes a guide for a tracer element and burner carriage which are mounted on opposite sides of the axis and perform equal and opposite sliding movements in substantially horizontal planes so that the burner duplicates in reflex manner the pattern followed by the tracer. The tracer may consist of a motordriven tracer wheel 15 co-operating with a drawing, two driven rollers engaging opposite sides of a metal tape templet, or a driven friction roller pressed by hand against a wooden, fibre or metal templet. The carrier 6 is rotatable on a post 1, which may be provided with a foot 29 or magnet so as to rest on the work or may be secured to a bracket 3 projecting from a work-table 4, and the pattern table 16 may be secured by a bracket 17 to the post or directly to the work-table. The burner carriage 9 and tracer element 14 are slidable on opposite sides of the post on two pairs of parallel arms 8, 7 secured to the carrier, being provided with rollers to engage the arms. The carriage 9 is secured to one run of an endless belt 13, cable or chain passing round pulleys 12, or sprocket wheels mounted at the ends of the arms, and the tracer element is secured to the other run of the belt. The centres of the tracer element and burner are equi-distant from the post. The height of the burner is adjusted by a rack and pinion through a telescopic rod 21 and hand-wheel 20. In a modification, Fig. 3, the carrier consists of a box 23, which is rotatable about the post 1 and through which are guided by upper, lower and lateral rollers 28, 27, rack bars 24, to the opposite ends of which the burner head 19 and tracer element 14 are respectively secured. The rack bars are reciprocated in opposite directions on movement of the tracer by a pinion 26 rotatable on the post. In a further form the post 1, Fig. 4, is arranged on a carriage 30 provided with travelling rollers 32 and check rollers 33 so as to run on a mono-rail 31 provided with feet 34. The templet table 16 is secured by brackets 17 to the base of the rail.
