Abstract
447,275. Ironing. TULLIS, Ltd., D. & J., and TULLIS, A. F., Kilbowie Iron Works, Clydebank. Nov. 14, 1934, No. 32734. [Class 138 (ii)] A garment press of the kind having a fixed buck 1 and a movable co-operating buck 2, is provided with a neckband clamping unit comprising a mandrel 3 mounted on the buck 1 and shaped to receive the neckband, a clamping member 6 connected by a pin 7 engaging in apertured lugs 21 thereon, to a piston 10 which is mounted in a cylinder 8 connected to a source of fluid pressure, such as compressed air, through a valve 11. When the member 6 is depressed by hand into a position opposite the neckband 4, a lever 15, pivoted at 16 on the member 6, depresses a plunger 17 so as to open the valve 11 and close an exhaust valve 12, the piston then being actuated to draw the member 6 against the neckband. During the final lowering movement of the buck 2, a striker 19 rocks the lever 15 to permit the valve 11 to close and the valve 12 to open the piston, then being returned to its initial position by a spring 13 and the member 6 retracted from its clamping position.
