[Class 123 (ii)] A thimble or loop tube boiler or water heater has an annular water chamber A fitted with thimbles B or loops projecting inwardly into a central fuel-fired passage C extending from a combustion chamber G at one end to a flue outlet I at the other and with thimbles D or loops extending outwardly into an annular passage E in which heat is extracted from exhaust or waste heat gases directed round the passage from an inlet G1. The inner shell of the water chamber of small boilers may be connected by bolted joints to the outer shell and removed by unbolting and raising or dropping to provide access to the outwardly extending tubes. Specification 211,342, [Class 123 (ii)], is referred to.
