Abstract

Acetyl cellulose is dyed or printed with an insoluble or difficulty soluble derivative of 1.4-diaminoanthraquinone of the general formula <FORM:0447090/IV/1> wherein R1 and R2 are different from each other and stand for alkyl or hydroxyalkyl groups, the sum of the carbon atoms in R1 and R2 not exceeding six or with a nuclear substitution product thereof. The term "alkyl" signifies a monovalent radicle of a hydrocarbon of the paraffin series. Nuclear substitution products of the foregoing materials may be used, for instance hydroxy, amino, alkylamino, alkyl, alkoxy or halogen may be used, these starting materials being made either according to Specifications 447,037, 447,107 and 447,108 or analogously from the appropriate parent materials. In examples acetyl cellulose is dyed with 1-methylamino-4 - b - oxyethylaminoanthraquinone (prepared from 1 - methylamino - (or 1 - b - oxyethylamino-) - anthraquinone containing a 4-nitro-hydroxy- or alkoxy-group or 4-halogen atom and b -oxyethylamine (or methylamine) or from 1-methylamino-4-aminoanthraquinone and ethylene oxide or ethylene chlorhydrin), 1-methylamino - 4 - n - butylaminoanthraquinone, 1 - b - oxyethylamino - 4 - b - oxypropylaminoanthraquinone, 1 - b - oxyethylamino - 4 g - oxypropylaminoanthraquinone, 1 - b - oxypropylamino - 4 - g - oxypropylammoanthraquinone, 1 - oxyethylamino - 4 - oxybutylaminoanthraquinones, 1 - methylamino-4-propylaminoanthraquinone, 1 - methylamino-4 - b - oxypropylamino - anthraquinone, 1-methylamino - 4 - g - oxypropylaminoanthraquinone, 1-methylamino-4-b -oxybutylaminoanthraquinone, the dye-pastes being dispersed in a soap solution. A sample has been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of acetyl cellulose fibres dyed with 1-methylamino-4-ethylaminoanthraquinone.
