Abstract
446,945. Collapsable tubes. SANDER'S CHEMICAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., 43, Regent Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire.-(Sander, E. ; 2, Schackstrasse, Munich, Germany) Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23486. [Class 66] [See also Group V] The extrusion orifice of a collapsable container formed from a polymerizate of vinyl alcohol or acrylic acid consists of a slit 4, Figs. 1, 3, formed in the neck portion 3, which is of elastic nature, and adapted. to be opened by the pressure of the contents when the container is squeezed. The neck is encircled by a rigid metal collar 5 of elongated form provided with finger pieces 6, and by turning this through a quarter turn from the position shown the neck is distorted and the orifice prevented from opening to discharge the contents. A flexible metal strip 2 is inserted in the opposite end of the container before , closing, to assist in preserving the shape when rolled by a key. The containers may be made as shown in Fig. 4, by depositing from solution layers of the substance upon a glass or aluminium core 8 in such a manner as to produce a thickened, closed end, a suitable solution consisting of one part by weight of polymerized acrylic acid acetic ester and four parts of acetic acid ethyl ester ; the layers are deposited alternately from the solution given and from a similar one containing from 1 to 5 per cent of a softener such as di-isobutyl phthalate. The closed end is cut off along the line C-D and a block 12 of the substance rendered elastic by the softener is cemented by means of the solution in the opening, the slit being formed in the block either before or after attachment to the container. Specification 417,793 is referred to.
