Abstract

446,836. Stuffing - box substitutes. WALLWORK, H. C., 5, Devonshire Road, Eccles, Salford, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 15, 1934, No. 32941. [Class 122 (v)] A shaft-packing device for a dynamoelectric machine comprises a sleeve 7 surrounding the shaft with a small clearance, of such length as to be flame proof, and radially movable but flame proof with respect to the casing 3. A flange 9 on the sleeve engages a recess in the casing and is pressed into contact with one side thereof by spring pressed balls 11, rotation being prevented by a pin 17 engaging a slot in the sleeve. The bore of the sleeve may be grooved at 18 and provided with packing 19. To maintain a constant clearance between the sleeve and shaft, roller bearings 21, Fig. 3, may be mounted in a recess between halves 7, 7a of the sleeve. Specification 227,055, [Class 122 (v)], is referred to.
