Abstract

<PICT:0445881/IV/1> A rotary drum apparatus for the tanning &c. of hides and skins comprises a drum having a series of slats 12, spaced apart throughout most of their length by slats 14 and provided centrally with buckets 42 which traverse a trough 40 in the concave bottom of a vat 32 and carry up liquid to discharge it through the slots into the drum. The drum is provided internally with shelves 50 inclined as shown to the radii of the drum and adapted to lift up the hides &c. and drop them on to the surface of the liquid in the drum. Treating liquid may be introduced by way of a tank 36 provided with coils 38 for heating or cooling.
