Abstract
445,769. Endless chain elevators. HALL, W. A., Kelowna, Milne Terrace, Durham Road, Gateshead, Co. Durham. Oct. 5, 1934, No. 28595. [Class 78 (i)] In an elevator of the kind comprising a vertical chain or band having pivotally suspended therefrom a number of grid-like platforms which pass through stationary gridlike platforms on one side of the elevator and pick up articles therefrom and deposit them on similar stationary platforms on the opposite side of the elevator, an intermittent conveyer device is provided adjacent the latter platform to transfer the articles to a horizontal conveyer, the said conveyer device travelling in the same direction as the horizontal conveyer. Fig. 2 shows mechanism for conveying tinned loaves from shelves 14, 15 of a baker's oven to an endless conveyer 20. A row of tins is pushed off one of the shelves on to a stationary platform comprising grids 12, 13, the tins being aligned by the cranked portion 12<a> of the grid 12. They are then picked up by an upwardly moving grid-like platform 11<a>, pivotally suspended from the elevator 8, and deposited on a stationary platform comprising grids 16, 17. The tins are transferred from the platform to a plate 21 by a pusher member and then by a reciprocating pusher 26 to the conveyer 20. This member 26 is secured to an endless chain 23 passing round two spaced sprockets, one of which is intermittently driven from the sprocket shaft 5 of the elevator 8 at substantially the same speed as the conveyer 20. A clutch is provided whereby the timing of the pusher 26 may be altered so that the tins may be transferred to the conveyer 20 in an opposite direction when it is desired to reverse the direction of the said convever. The outer edge of the plate 21 may be turned up to form an abutment. Alternatively, a spring plate 22 may be provided. In the case of untinned bread, the loaves are transferred from the elevator 8 to an endless conveyer 20<1> by an intermittent belt conveyer 81. Levers are operated to disconnect the mechanism operating the pusher 26 and to throw the grids 16, 17 out of the path of the grids 11<a>, and grids 82, 83 swung into position. The loaves when deposited on the grids 82, 83, are transferred to the conveyer 81 by a pusher 87 which is reciprocated by a pair of arms 89 actuated by a roller 92 engaging in a groove of a cam 93 driven by chain-and-sprocket gearing from the sprocket shaft 6. A similar pusher mechanism may be employed for the transference of the tins from the grids 16, 17 to the plate 21. The conveyer 81 is driven from the sprocket shaft 5 by mechanism including a crank 59 connected by a link 60 to a lever 61 on which is pivoted a pawl 65 driving a ratchet 63. The movement of the conveyer 81 may be reversed by sliding a lever 68 upwardly whereby a segment 67 engages a roller 66 rigid with the pawl, and pivots the pawl clockwise. The platforms 11 are each rigidly mounted between a pair of links 10 which are suspended by slots 10<a> from pivots on brackets 9 projecting from the chains 8, so that, when passing round the lower elevator sprockets, they may be maintained substantially horizontal by a guide 20. The platforms are constrained against lateral and longitudinal movement when adjacent the stationary platforms by guides 18, 19.
