Abstract
445,347. Electric brakes. LEITNER, H., 408, Abbey House, Victoria Street, Westminster. Sept. 29, 1934, Nos. 27957 and 30300. [Class 103 (i)] [See also Group XXXV] An eddv-current brake comprises an unwound disc or a cylindrical armature 7 and a field magnet having opposed poles 2, 4 formed by overlapping portions of the cone so that the joint 11 is embraced by the excitation coil and extends at least over two thirds of the length of the coil. The engaging surfaces of the two parts 1, 8 are of tapering form and are forced together by hydraulic or other means and the parts may also be screwed together. Two field magnets may be joined back to back as shown in Fig. 1. In a modification, the poles 2, 4 extend towards one another and overlap one another over the coil. Radiating fins 36 and fans are used to assist cooling. In the modification shown in Fig. 9, the poles are separately excited and comprise a number of units mounted on a spider 30. Each unit comprises two poles 31, 32 having interfitting tapering cone portions 38, 39 secured by a nut 41. A further set of poles may be secured to the other side of the spider or the cone portions may have poles. projecting from each side so as to form a twin valve brake, the cones being mounted on a tubular carrier. More than one set of magnets may be mounted at different radii. Specifications 418,443 and 418,496 are referred to.
