Abstract
445,276. Knitting. JONES, T. H., The Aspens, Breck Hill Road, Woodthorpe, Nottinghamshire. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28167. [Class 74 (ii)] A knitted fabric is obtained by pushing the new loops through the existing or previously formed loops. The machine for so knitting may comprise a cylinder and dial with instruments 22, 26 mounted in tricks therein. The instruments hove deep V-shaped throats formed therein, and, to facilitate the insertion of an instrument into the loop held by the corresponding instrument in the other bed, the instruments mav be bowed or cranked as shown in Fig. 2. In the formation of a plain fabric, the old loop OL is held in the throat of one instrument, e.g. a cylinder instrument 22, which instrument is in the projected or raised position. The new thread is fed to the throat of the dial instrument 26 which is in retracted position, and the instrument 22 is projected so as to push the new thread 7 in loop form into the loop held by the cylinder instrument. The cylinder instruments 22 are thereupon lowered, leaving the new loop NL held by the dial instrument as shown in Fig. 7. The dial instrument is slightly retracted and the cylinder instrument raised so that the web 22b thereof passes into the new loop, and finally the dial instrument is withdrawn, leaving the new loop on the cylinder instrument. For forming purl fabric, from the stage shown in Fig. 7, instead of the new loop being transferred to the cylinder instruments and the dial instruments retracted, the cylinder instruments rise to take thread from a feeder and force loops of that thread through the new loop, so that the succeeding loop in each wale is drawn in opposite direction. Rib fabric also may be produced. For forming antiladdering fabric as described in Specification 329,098, [Class 74 (ii)], the method for making plain fabric is followed to the stage when the cylinder instrument is raised to impale the new loop held by the dial instrument, and the dial instrument is withdrawn so that the old loop OL moves off the top of the instrument on to the lower web 26<a>. The dial instrument is thereupon projected to push the old loop through the new loop. Fig. 11, and the cylinder instrument is lowered leaving the old loop on its lower web and new loop upon its top edge. Withdrawal of the dial instrument and raising of the cylinder instrument to impale the old loop completes the process. Warp-knitted and Milanese fabrics may also be made. Specification 424,150 also is referred to.
