Abstract
The lining of a rotary furnace, on which the charge forms a protective crust, is made of material having a porosity throughout its mass of at least 35 per cent. The lining may be constructed of pre-burnt bricks, or a plastic mass or formed shapes containing combustible or volatile substances may be burnt in situ. The refractory material may be alumina, magnesite, chromite or chamotte, and provided that the material is sufficiently strong it may have a porosity up to 80 per cent. Specifications 281,254, [Class 70], and 444,878, are referred to.
